Eleven Ears is set in S.G. Palya, a neighbourhood in Bangalore where a middle-class home and the street continually shape one another. Inside an apartment, a father and daughter translate the poems of the father's late brother, Madhu - pen name, Atmanam. Outside, neighbours, passing conversations, children at play and the sounds of everyday life gather at the threshold. As the poems move from Tamil into Kannada and English, the boundaries between inside and outside, memory and the present, begin to soften. Translation becomes less a search for the right words than a way of learning to listen, until both father and daughter find themselves quietly transformed by what they hear.
